Historians consider the University to date back to the 19 century when Kyiv Polytechnics started training professional railway engineers. Nowadays Kyiv State University for Transport Economy and Technologies is one of the most promising railway higher educational establishments in Ukraine having the third accreditation level. The University prepares specialists highly skilled specialists for all spheres and areas of railway industry. High proficiency and wide experience allow the University to train railway personnel having Specialist’s and Master’s degrees in nine specialties. Today more than 4400 people are the students of three main university faculties 1600 of them being full-time students. More than 400 people are students of the Preparatory Faculty. The University consists of 6 buildings. The University encompasses 5 faculties and 20 departments, 10 of which prepare graduates. The extremely skilled and professional university staff includes 164 full-time faculty members, 89 part-time employees, 37 of them being scientific research supervisors to the graduate students. 64 per cent of full-time personnel are Doctors of Science and Candidates of Science, 15 per cent of them are Professors and Doctors. 13 university departments are headed by Doctors of Science. 5 Academicians and corresponding members of Ukrainian Transport Academy work at the University.
Our scientists and researchers take an active part not only in countrywide conferences, seminars, symposia and congresses but also in international activities being held in such countries as Russia, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and many others.
The University has connections with various international educational institutions and organizations, professional associations, it is a member of the International Union of Railways or UIC.
Modern life is full of challenges to make us move forward and search new ways of development. And it is not only Ukrzaliznytsya that is being constantly reformed. Kyiv University for Transport Economy and Technologies became a self-governing and independent structure according to the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers’ Decree issued 18 April 2008. And we together with the Ministry of Transport go hand in hand towards the prospective future.
New research methods and teaching strategies are to be introduced at the University. The Degree accented that fundamental research should be held at the University to find new solutions for railway transport problems. And we have a lot of work to do in this sphere. Economical component of University development is also vital.
