State University for Transport Economy and Technologies (2007) is a legal successor of Kyiv University for Transport Economy and Technologies which was founded in 1966.
Nowadays State University for Transport Economy and Technologies is a contemporary institution of higher education of the third accreditation level that trains specialists for railway transport and other modes of transport, specialists for enterprises and organizations of Ukraine.
A principal subject, strategic goal, and social trend of the University’s activity is to train and retrain specialists able to be competitive at labour-markets of Ukraine.

The University is headed by rector Makarenko Mykhailo Volodymyrovych, born in 1953, who is Doctor of Economics, Professor, Academician of Transport Academy of Ukraine, Honored transport worker.

According to the license of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, dated 09.12.2009, serial number AB No. 498479, the University has the right to train specialists on 9 specialities according to the general license admission volume (bachelors, specialists and masters). The general number of students studying at three main faculties of the University for the 1st March, 2000 is 4579 people of which 1871 take full-time studying and 2708 take part-time studying. There are more than 200 students studying at the faculty of pre-university training and 1000 students studying at the faculty of qualification training.
The University has six educational, laboratory, and auxiliary buildings with the total area of 18 111 square meters.
Five faculties and nineteen departments constitute an educational infrastructure of the University. An educational process at the University is realized by qualified scientists and teachers of whom 178 ones are staff teachers; 82 ones are job-sharing teachers, 26 job-sharing teachers are involved to conduct diploma projects.
There are more than 60 % of teachers who have academic degrees including over 13 % of Doctors of Science and Professors among them.
Thirteen out of nineteen departments of the University are headed by professors. The teachers’ staff of the University comprises fifteen academicians and corresponding members of Transport Academy of Ukraine.
There are four Special Academic Councils for candidate and doctoral dissertation defense.

As for organization of educational process the University is focused on modern teaching technologies, computerization of studying process, and implementing its programs of continuous training (professional, economics, computer etc.) that are reflected in the University’s curricula. On the whole there are 4579 students studying at three main faculties. Over 200 study at the faculty of pre-university training, 1000 students study at the faculty of qualification training.
SUTET has the right to train specialists on 9 specialities according to the general license admission volume (bachelors, specialists and masters) – 2840 people, including 1320 full-time students. License volume of training to enter the institution of higher education is 1200 people; the number of heads and specialists to obtain advanced training is 1000 people per year. The total number of people studying at the three main faculties of the University for the 1st October, 2009 is 4736 full-time and part-time students comprising 1921 full-time students. The faculty of pre-university training has 200 students. The University has six educational, laboratory, and auxiliary buildings with the total area of 18 111 square meters. Taking into account the area of the affiliate departments, which are also involved in the educational process, the total area is 21 650 square meters. Five faculties and nineteen departments constitute an educational infrastructure of the University. An educational process at the University is realized by qualified scientists and teachers of whom 175 ones are staff teachers; 87 ones are job-sharing teachers, 43 job-sharing teachers are involved to conduct diploma projects.
There are more than 60 % of teachers who have academic degrees including over 13 % of Doctors of Science and Professors among them. Thirteen out of twenty departments of the University are headed by professors. The teachers’ staff of the University comprises fifteen academicians and corresponding members of Transport Academy of Ukraine.

Faculty of Infrastructure and Rolling Stock of a Railway Transport

The faculty trains specialists on the following specialities: electric transport; automatic machinery and automation on transport; rolling stock and special machinery of railway transport; railway constructions and track sector. Masters are also trained according to the aforementioned specialities.

Alumni of the above mentioned specialities work at different enterprises of the railway transport, wagon and locomotive depots, information and accounting centers, tracks etc.

Faculty of Railway Transport Operation


There are 1073 students studying at the faculty: 450 students take full-time training, 623 students take part-time training. Department Head is Deputy Dean Strelko O.H.

After graduating the specialists obtain speciality “Organization of transportation and transport management (railway transport)”. Alumni of the above mentioned speciality work as organizers of railway traffic, managers of railway stations; they also work at freight and passenger transportation organizations, subways, forwarding companies, transport-design institutes. To have high quality training for specialists on speciality “Transport technologies” two chief subjects on issues of passenger transportation considering railways and subways, and commercial activity of railways have been opened.

Faculty of Economics and Management


There are 1414 students studying at the faculty: 708 students take full-time training, 706 students take part-time training. Department Head is Dean Bakaeva I.H., Candidate of Economics, Associate Professor.

The faculty trains specialists on the fallowing specialities: finance; accountancy; enterprises economy, management of organizations.

Faculty of Pre-University Training

The faculty trains 1200 people to be submitted to the institution of higher education. It provides with full-time and part-time training.

Faculty of Advanced Studies

For the 1st March, 2010, 465 people were studying at the faculty.
Since 1998 a postgraduate course has been working at the University. It trains students on eight specialities: 05.22.06 “Railway track”, 05.22.07 “Railway rolling stock and locomotive traction”, 08.00.04 “Economy and management of enterprises”, 05.13.05 “Computer systems and components”, 07.00.07 “History of science and technology”, 01.02.01. “Engineering mechanics”, 05.11.07 “Optical devices and systems”, 05.22.01. “Transportation systems”. There are 14 Doctors of Science who are mentors for postgraduates.
SUTET is one of the centers of railway science in the state. There are 20 research projects on state budget and 15 – on cost accounting. The total volume of scientific research financing in 2009 was more than 1.647 m hryvnas of which 223.3 thousand hryvnas were allocated to finance projects on state budget and 1.424 m hryvnas – to finance projects on cost accounting. The main customers of the state subject is Ukrzaliznytsia and Ministry of Transport and Communications.
State budget research scientific works are focused on scientific interests of the future doctoral candidates and postgraduates. They perform a substantial support to train a higher qualification personnel. One of the obligatory outcomes of such research works is defense of doctoral and candidate theses.
A conception and a program of the University development for the years of 2007-2010 have been developed and coordinated with Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine.
According to the order No. 410, dated 08.04.2008, of Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine a scientific production complex “TransNauVyKom” has been created. It comprises Kyiv Technical College of Railway Transport, Kyiv Electromechanical College after M. Ostrovsky, Vinnytsya and Chernivtsy Transport Colleges.
A division “Railway transport” of the Chief Scientific Center of Transport Academy of Ukraine has been created. Postgraduates and students can publish the results of their researches in “Collected research works of SUTET” of the following series: “Transportation systems and technologies” and “Economics and management” that are introduced in the Higher Certification Commission of Ukraine list of professional publications on technics and economics.
To improve organization and to increase effectiveness of the scientific research activity the University hosts Scientific Center of Economic and Transport Problems Studies, Research Center of Innovations and Competitiveness, Research Institute for Transport Development Problems and three research laboratories whose heads are the vanguard university scientists: “Research laboratory of the long-term rolling stock and special engineering”, “Research laboratory of reliability and quality of the railway track, switches and track constructions”, and “Research laboratory of economic analysis and accounting methodology on railway transport”.
Scientists and teachers of the University departments take an active part in different state and international congresses, symposia, conferences, and seminars which are held both in Ukraine and beyond its borders (Russia, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia).
During the years of 2008-2009 the University teachers issued 1 textbook, 53 tutorials (8 of which with the signature stamp of Ministry of Education and Science), 9 monographs, 170 designations of methodological literature.
There are 365 computers at the University that enable students to have 1.6 hour excess daily.
To get students accustomed to a work during the educational process some bases of practical training have been created at more than 60 enterprises of Ukrzaliznytsya.
Student self-government is in active progress at the University. There is Student parliament and student hostel boards. The annual sports and athletics meetings take place at the University. The students rank prize-winning places at prestigious competitions, take up sections on 14 kinds of sports. Scientific student clubs operate at the University, just: ecological club “Edelweiss”, club “Psychology of modern management”, Ukrainian history club, “Scientific club of a Ukrainian language fanciers”.
The University’s students get scholarships of President of Ukraine, Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, “Ukrzaliznytsya”, Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine, scholarships named after Honorary railwaymen I.H. Chernat and B.S. Oliynyk, and also social scholarships of Verkhovna Rada for orphans, scholarships of Kyiv mayor.
The University maintains international relations with 25 foreign educational institutions, associations. A cooperation with Railway Community and International Railway Federation, whose membership the University obtained the first among educational institutions of Ukraine, has a particular significance in the University’s international activity.
The University sees its social mission to train specialists that are really needed for labor-market, that will be helpful for their state, for railway transport and other modes of transport, that will realize themselves in professional career, will provide themselves with reputable work.
